League 1: DeC Rebels beat Legends to take title (Week 9)

Although all eyes were on the league decider at Allan Park Stadium, we must start with the match between ATSSC and Caledonian at DP2. This was Caley's last opportunity to record a victory in the AECL this season, currently sitting pointless at the bottom of the table. ATSSC batted first and posted at total of 105 for 7. In reply, Caley were closing in on their first victory. The scores were tied on 105.....4 wickets in hand.....then calamitus maximus. The last 4 wickets fell for 0 runs with the last wicket a brilliant 'billy the fish' like diving catch, high and to the right by G.Skinner in the covers. Quite a finish. The only consolation for Caledonian is that their first point of the season is now secured!

An overcast evening greeted both teams at APS as the Legends and Rebels faced each other in a league decider. Gilly wandered out to the middle and finally proved what a useless tosser he was as Naru called correctly and the Rebels elected to bat.

Sree and Mano piled on some quick runs before Sree holed out to Church in the deep who took a great catch. Mano was well stumped by Tariq as he pushed forward to try to drive Dod. Bala was soon out cleaned out by Dod after launching a big 6. Kapil fell to a good catch on the boundary by Skipper Russ. Taka (32 no) and Debo (30 no) were in together and steadied the Rebel's innings, both retiring after decent knocks. Vikram was then caught but the Rebels had amassed a decent total and closed on 165 for 5. Some sloppy fielding by The Legends contributing to the total. Pick of the bowlers for the Legends was G Hadden (3 for 32).

In the gathering gloom, The Legends opened up with the usual pairing of Dod and Tim. With only 8 an over required The Legends had the firepower to match the Rebel's total however a slow start got worse as Dod was run out after Tim had driven Viggy straight back like a bullet, who luckily got a finger on the ball (now a sore finger) on its way to hitting the stumps. An unlucky end for Hadden. Tim was trying to drive on the score but was caught and this brought Gilly and Dougie together. Dougie fell to an inside edge onto the stumps but at the other end Gilly was scoring freely with some boundaries. Special was victim of Swapnil's spin and the Duke fell in a similar fashion next ball. Naru dropped the hat-trick ball after a nick behind, however Chris soon holed out after blitzing a 6. Zed was in with the Mongoose and Rahuls slow ball got Gilly (29) trying the last hurrah before retiring. Tariq also fell bowled by Rahul and the resistance ended when Church was caught off Kapil. The Legends were bowled out for 79. The Rebels ran out worthy winners on the night, winning by a massive 86 runs. Pick of the bowlers for the Rebels were Swapnil (3 for 13) and Bala (2 for 11).

Congratulations to the DeC Rebels for remaining unbeaten throughout the season. The DeC Rebels received the league trophy in the fading light from J.Mac. Thank you to Selva from the Knightriders for making himself available as the second neutral umpire on the night.

The match between Apache Gordonians and Cup finalists the Dare Devils at Countesswells was reduced to 15 overs per side. Apache Gordonians batted first and posted a total of 128 for 5, with K. Humpheys (30 no) and M Van Vurren (22) top scoring. In reply, the Dare Devils reached 132 for 4 in 13 overs to record a 6 wicket victory, with P Ballal (30 no), Gokul (28 no) and Soni (23 no) top scoring with the bat. Pick of the bowlers for Apache Gordonians was R. Watt (2 for 12).

Inn at the Park batted first against St Ronald at DP3 and posted a total of 125 for 5 off 20 overs, with key contributions from Adeel (30 no), Moiz (30 no) and Asif Bowler (25 no). Pick of the bowlers for St Ronald was Gaurav (4 for 15). In reply, St Ronald reached 129 for 5 in the 17th over to record a 5 wicket victory, with Rehan (29 no) and Tabrez (25 no) top scoring. A mighty 27 wides didn't help the Park's cause on the night. Pick of the bowlers for the Park was Aamir (3 for 21 off 4 overs). Both teams have one further rearranged match to play in the league this season.
