The Dare Devils have won the League and Cup double as the Legends fell agonisingly short of the required win and margin on Tuesday at APS against St Ronald. The Legends batted first and posted a daunting total of 210 for 5 off 20 overs, with G. Hadden, J. Barrett, P. Gill and R. Balsillie all retiring after reaching 30 and C. Forbes making 29. Pick of the bowlers for St Ronald was Praveen (2 for 27 of 4 overs). This meant the Legends had to restrict St Ronald to 90 runs in their reply in order to take the title. Wickets steadily fell and St Ronald slumped to 70 for 8 giving the Legends a fighting chance. The Legends had to restrict St Ronald to no more than 18 runs from the last three overs with two wickets still remaining. However it was a ninth wicket partnership of 22 between V. Bode (16) and Lucky (9 no) that proved costly in the end and St Ronalds reached 92 for 9 after 20 overs. A comprehensive victory by 118 runs by the Legends, but a margin of 2 away (equating to two runs over the course of the season) from taking the title. The Dare Devils ended on 12 points (margin 399) and the Legends 12 points (margin 398).
Hard luck on the Legends this year, especially considering the match against the Royal Challengers the previous week was restricted to only 15 overs by both teams, thereby restricting the opportunity to maximise a winning margin when batting first.
In League 2, Grammar 98 and BCC finished with victories over BP and RGU Gordonians respectively.
The tables are now complete having given teams 1pt each where matches were not completed by 9th August inclusive.
