Batsman / Bowler of the Year AwardsFirstly, apologies for the delay in announcing the Batsman / Bowler of the Year for Leagues 1 & 2. The Committee reached their conclusion following a review of the full stats. The decision is based on a number of factors (e.g. overs bowled, number of innings, total runs, total wickets, economy, strike rate etc) and not just the recorded average for batsmen / bowlers. The winners each receive an engraved AECL tankard. As in previous years, not all teams put forward a nomination (a lack of a score book does not help matters!!). Thank you to all teams you did put forward nominations. I did enjoy reading the bowling stats for Inn at the Park's nomination, which just stated 'zillions' in the runs conceded column!! The attached table details some of our key performers this season. League 1 Batsman - Rashid (Knightriders). Rashid batted in each match for the Knightriders this season and top scored in the league with a massive 262 runs from 10 innings. With 6 not out / retirals, this resulted in an average of 65.5 (or 26.2 excluding the retirals, indicating a strong contribution in every innings throughout the season). Other notable performers were J. Barrett (Legends) who made 200 runs from 9 innings (6 retirals) recording an average of 66.7, Aman Arora (Dare Devils) who made 130 runs from 7 innings (5 not outs) recording an average of 65 and Chandra Mouli (Dare Devils) who made 171 runs from 7 innings (4 not out) recording an average of 57 runs. Bowler - R. Balsillie (Legends). Russell won another AECL tankard after another strong display; joint second top wicket taker on 14 wickets, best average and a very competitive strike and economy rate at Allan Park Stadium. Other notable performances included top wicket taker Rahul Narula (Dare Devils), J. Barrett (Legends), who clearly wins 'all rounder' of the year, as well as the economic D. Anderson (Legends) and joint second top wicket taker Prasanth (Knightriders). League 2 Batsman - Alex Starling (BCC). Alex batted in 7 innings this season and scored 121 runs (6 not out / retirals), resulting in an average of 121. Top run scorer was Abrar Ahmed (also BCC) with 166 runs from 7 innings, resulting in an average of 55.3. Bowler - Abrar Ahmed (BCC). Abrar was an ever present this season and bowled 37 overs for BCC and was the top wicket taker in League 2 with 19 wickets. Abrar recorded an excellent economy of 4.5 over the course of the season, as well as an average of 8.7. Another clear winner of the 'all rounder' of the year, following an excellent performance with the bat as well. Also worthy of a mention are the 70 balls bowled by Chris Bell (BCC) this season. Chris took an amazing 13 wickets (second top wicket taker), with an average of 4.8 and a strike rate of 5.3. Well done Chris!! Teams will be contacted directly and delivery of the tankards arranged.
