Batsman / Bowler of the Year Awards

Firstly, apologies for the delay in announcing the Batsman / Bowler of the Year for Leagues 1 & 2. The Committee reached their conclusion following a review of the full stats. The decision is based on a number of factors (e.g. overs bowled, number of innings, total runs, total wickets, economy, strike rate etc) and not just the recorded average for batsmen / bowlers. The winners each receive an engraved AECL tankard. As in previous years, not all teams put forward a nomination (a lack of a score book does not help matters!!). Thank you to all teams you did put forward nominations. I did enjoy reading the bowling stats for Inn at the Park's nomination, which just stated 'zillions' in the runs conceded column!! The attached table details some of our key performers this season.

Dare Devils take League 1 title as Legends fall agonisingly short

The Dare Devils have won the League and Cup double as the Legends fell agonisingly short of the required win and margin on Tuesday at APS against St Ronald. The Legends batted first and posted a daunting total of 210 for 5 off 20 overs, with G. Hadden, J. Barrett, P. Gill and R. Balsillie all retiring after reaching 30 and C. Forbes making 29. Pick of the bowlers for St Ronald was Praveen (2 for 27 of 4 overs). This meant the Legends had to restrict St Ronald to 90 runs in their reply in order to take the title. Wickets steadily fell and St Ronald slumped to 70 for 8 giving the Legends a fighting chance. The Legends had to restrict St Ronald to no more than 18 runs from the last three overs with two wickets still remaining. However it was a ninth wicket partnership of 22 between V. Bode (16) and Lucky (9 no) that proved costly in the end and St Ronalds reached 92 for 9 after 20 overs. A comprehensive victory by 118 runs by the Legends, but a margin of 2 away (equating to two runs over the course of the season) from taking the title. The Dare Devils ended on 12 points (margin 399) and the Legends 12 points (margin 398).

Week 13: Legends Still in Title Hunt

The Legends know that they require to win their game against Axis St Ronald next Tuesday by 120 runs or more to steal the League 1 title on the final day of the AECL season. This was after they completed a 32 run win over the Royal Challengers, while Daredevils were awarded a walkover against ATSSC.

The Legends, batting first, scored 170 for 2 in a 15 over game against Challengers at Duthie Park last night. Chris Forbes hit a maximum 35. Graeme Gillanders, Drew Hinchcliffe and Jonny Barrett all scored 30. In reply, Royal Challengers fell short scoring 138 for 6. Sandy scored 30 and Indy 29. Doug Anderson and Russell Balsille both took 2 wickets.

Dare Devils lift Oxy Cup at Mannofield

The 2011 Oxy Cup final between the Legends and the Dare Devils was a repeat of last year. This was going to be the only opportunity to play the final at Mannofield so the weather gods could not have been kinder.....plenty of sunshine and light. This is in contrast to last year where one match at Mannofield was abandoned followed by a number of further cancellations until the final was finally played at Duthie Park.
